Our Beginnings
Since I was a child, I dreamed of owning a lodge—a vision sparked by building blanket tents and camping under the stars in our garden. My visionary parents, who filled my life with adventures across the breathtaking landscapes of Ecuador, inspired that dream. When they acquired part of the Singuna Farmland in the northwest foothills of Pichincha Mountain, I immediately fell in love with the property. Its diverse forests, sprawling fields, rustic cattle areas, rolling hills, and stunning vistas near Quito held endless possibilities, even though all that stood was a crumbling Jesuit retreat amidst a sea of pines.
With unwavering determination and heart, my parents began restoring the land, and as the determined son, I joined in—working tirelessly through hard times and scarce resources. While earning my veterinarian degree and studying hotel management at night, I witnessed our humble farmhouse transform into an inn. Early on, companies like Siemens and Merk became our first guests, affirming our dream was taking shape.
We pioneered a unique way to experience nature—offering “green” tours that immersed visitors in the authentic charm of our land. Local schoolchildren and adventurers embarked on journeys to discover cascading waterfalls, ancient trails once walked by pre-Inca peoples, and the rich tapestry of rural life. Our rallying cry, “Why go far away to enjoy pristine nature? Enjoy Hosteria San Jorge at the door of Quito,” captured the spirit of these adventures, blending learning with pure, unbridled exploration.
Even amid economic collapse and challenging times, we innovated by launching a website to connect directly with international travelers. This bold move introduced us to Cheryl, whose 25 years of dedication, enthusiasm, and loyalty not only expanded our reach but also became the bridge to new markets. Thanks Cheryyl! I will never forget what you did for San Jorge! My son Jorge Jr., driven by his love for birding and photography, returned from academic success abroad with the promise, “Dad, I will be back to help you!” Today, he stands ready to lead our legacy as we continue to expand—embracing new lands, building more lodges, and facing every challenge head-on, even during the Covid era.
For 35 years, San Jorge has been more than a tourism project—it’s a living testament to perseverance, passion, and the power of faith. Every step of our journey has shown us that with unwavering belief, nothing is impossible. The faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible, and receives the impossible—and it is this spirit that inspires us every day.

San Jorge Ecolodges is the only network of ecolodges and reserves that conserves and protects nature through education and specific PRIVATE tourist enjoyment offered through high-quality TOURS ranging from 1 to 20 days. It has 8 protected private Nature Reserves and 6 luxury rustic Lodges in different climatic zones.
Our Lodges are strategically located across the best-protected ecological areas of Ecuador, the most biodiverse country in the world by area! The Galapagos Islands, the Coast, the Andes, and the Amazon are visited by tourists eager to find beautiful birds, a vast variety of amphibians, butterflies, moths, fish, orchids, and mammals through a process of learning and fun in nature.

San Jorge Eco-Lodges and Botanical Reserves is the first of its kind in South America. We own eight private nature reserves in Ecuador, containing eleven different eco-systems throughout the east and west slopes of the Andes and to the Pacific coast. We also own six private eco-lodges located inside the reserves which are comfortably rustic and environmentally friendly, offering quality services. San Jorge properties are dedicated to eco-tourism, environmental conservation and community sustainability.
Our private reserves and surroundings offer over 1450 possible bird species, 80 hummingbirds, 60 waterfalls, 10 rivers, 3000 wild orchids, 4500 butterflies, enormous number of mammals and diverse flora & fauna. We offer the best options for seniors, beginners, families and hard-core birdwatchers. Birdwatching tours, wild photography tours, reptile and amphibians’ tours, shamanic and ancestral medicinal plant tours, biking adventure tours.
We offer delicious four-course food, organic, fresh and national. Made with products purchased directly from farmers producers or from our own orchards. We have various options for your visit to Ecuador including traditional food classes and how to make chocolate
Our eco-adventure tours include airport transfers or pick up from downtown Quito, meals, lodging, guides and private transportation to all reserves. Visit with us the best cultural sites in the historic center of Quito such as churches, museums, squares, the most genuine Indian markets where you can taste our typical food and meet real shamans or walk our trails learning the natural history of our reserve as well as the use of local medicinal plants.
